Ingredients

  • 1 cup of margarine

  • 1 cup of sugar

  • 2 teaspoons of vanilla

  • 1 tablespoon of water

  • 2 cups of flour

  • 1/2 teaspoon of salt

  • 1 cup chopped nuts- walnuts or pecans

  • Powdered sugar- about 1 cup

Instructions

  1. Pre-heat oven to 400 degrees

  2. Cut your margarine sticks into cubes and put into a mixing bowl

  3. Add the sugar, water, and vanilla

  4. Beat the margarine, sugar, water and vanilla with a hand held mixture until well combined - about 2-3 minutes on medium speed. You want this to have a creamy and smooth texture

  5. Add 2 cups of flour and 1/2 teaspoon of salt to mixing bowl and mix with the margarine mixture until combined (about 1 minute with the electric mixer)

  6. Add in 1 cup choped walnuts or pecans and mix by hand until well combined.

  7. Cover a baking sheet with parchment paper

  8. Roll cookies into 1 inch balls

  9. Bake for 8-10 minutes at 400 degrees. They are done when the bottoms are golden brown

  10. Cool for at least 45 minutes until completely cool

  11. Put confectioners sugar/powdered sugar in a bag or bowl and toss the cooled cookies in the powdered sugar to coat

    Notes and Adjustments!

The nuts in this recipe are optional and different nuts can be used, you can try almonds, walnuts or my favorite pecans. Be sure to chop the nuts up very well. These are called by different names in different cultures, you may have heard them called crescents or snowballs. I call them sugary, butter balls- which pretty much sums up how they taste - enjoy!
